Aberdeen Awaits the Scottish Mixed Championship

The Scottish Curling Mixed Championship will be held at Curl Aberdeen from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March. The Scottish Curling Mixed Championship is open to teams consisting of two males and two females, playing in alternate positions. The winners of the Scottish Curling Mixed Championships will get the opportunity to represent Scotland at the World Mixed Curling Championship.

The first ever World Mixed Curling Championship will be held in Bern, Switzerland between 12 and 19 September 2015. This event replaces the European Mixed Curling Championship, which was last held in Taarnby, Denmark in September 2014. This was following the decision to expand the European Mixed Curling Championship to a world-wide event at the 2014 WCF Annual General Assembly.

Scotland has had significant success in the European Mixed Curling Championships and over the last ten years have achieved four European Mixed Curling Championship gold medals in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012 and a silver medal in 2013.

The competition has always brought together some of Scottish curling’s most prominent names and has over the last few years featured Scottish Champions, World Champions and Olympic medallists including three times Scottish Mixed Champion, Winter Olympic Bronze Medalist and World Champion, Eve Muirhead, two times Scottish Mixed Champion and three times World Champion and current Scottish Champion Ewan MacDonald. Fellow two time winner of the competition, Winter Olympic silver medallist and three times Scottish Champion, Tom Brewster and winner of the competition on two occasion, World Champion and six time Scottish Champion Jackie Lockhart.

This year will be no different attracting recent medal winners such as World Junior Curling Championship medal winning skips Gina Aitken (pictured at the World Junior Curling Championships) and Bruce Mouat, as well as 2015 Winter Universiade bronze medal winning skip Kyle Smith.
