Ayr’s Double Win : Maxwell and Morton Trophy 2013

The Maxwell Trophy took place at Murrayfield on Tuesday 12 March 2013, on very good, keen ice.  The semi-finals saw Forfar play Ayr with Ayr winning two of the three games.  Borders took on Lockerbie and again won two of the three games.

The finals, sponsored by Murrayfield Curling Ltd, started slightly earlier than scheduled and saw Neil Kennedy (Ayr) against Keith Prentice (Borders), Robert Clark (Ayr) versus James Stark (Borders) and Billy Howat (Ayr) against Jim Cullen (Borders).  Ayr skips, Neil and Billy both won their games, with Border skip James, beating Robert.

Delighted at their win, Ayr Captain, Billy Howat, commented “it was good ice, the teams played well and the company was excellent”.

Pat Edington, Past President of the RCCC, presented the trophy and then the celebrations began, fueled by the news filtered through that the Ayr Ladies had won the Morton Trophy, to give Ayr Ice Rink the double.
