Curling champ honoured at Angus Sports Awards
The sporting stars of Angus were in the spotlight for the 16th annual Angus Sports Awards ceremony on Tuesday night. The Angus Sports Awards 2011 ceremony took place at the Reid Hall, Forfar and again highlighted the sporting talent and achievement that exists in Angus.
Angus Council Sports Development Team again took the opportunity to honour the commitment, achievements and dedication of individuals and teams involved in sport across Angus. Angus Ahead, the area marketing campaign set up to fly the flag for the county at home and abroad were associated with the Angus Sports Awards 2011 ceremony.
Greg Drummond (pictured front left) of Fotheringham Curling Club was crowned Sports Personality of the Year and has been a Scottish Junior runner up, Mens Champion and World Champion runner up under Team Brewster and also represented Great Britain in the Winter Universiade. Greg is a key player in a team of 4 who helped to secure the Scottish championship title and Silver Medal at the World Championships. He also won the highly sought after Continental cup which is contested by North America against The World. Greg has his sights set of retaining the Scottish title and if victorious, hopes to win Gold at the World Championships in 2012. The Angus curler and his team mates are working towards GB selection for the Winter Olympics in 2014. Other short listed finalists were cricketer, Claire Pirie and Mark Shepherd.
