Curling This Week: From 4th March
The Scottish Wheelchair Curling Championship, sponsored by Fergusson Coal and run in partnership with the Scottish Wheelchair Curling Association, will take place at The Peak, Stirling from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th March. Defending champions Team Harvey will again be competing in this year’s event, alongside members of the team which recently represented Scotland at the World Wheelchair Curling Championships and the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014, all who will be skipping their own teams, except Jim Gault who will play third for fellow Paralympian Gregor Ewan’s. 12 teams from across Scotland will be taking part in the competition, split into two sections,with the top two teams progressing to the Semi-Finals, while the remaining teams play for the fifth to eighth position.

The National Masters Curling Championships will be held at Greenacres Curling Rink from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th March. The National Masters Curling Championships is an annual event open to curlers over the age of 60 bringing together the best teams from across Scotland to compete for the national men’s and women’s masters titles. Last year’s men’s champions Bryce Smith, Ian Fleming, Gordon Gilchrist and Jim Raeburn return again this year to defend their title. 12 men’s and 11 women’s teams both split into two sections will be competing in this year’s competition. The top two team’s will progress to the women’s and men’s Semi-Finals which are set to take place on Sunday 8th at 10:30am, with the Finals scheduled for 2pm.

The final Asham Under 14 Slam of the season will take place this Sunday, 8th March, at Dewars Centre Perth. This is one of three, one-day, Asham Under 14 Slam events this season with points being awarded at each. Team Craik have already won the two previous Asham Under 14 Slam events this season at Aberdeen and Stranraer and so have already secured the Asham Under 14 Slam title. Team Waddell currently occupy the second place in the table with 15 points while Waterfront and Team Murray are currently tied in third place with 10 points.
