Curling this weekend: from 23rd September
The first of this season’s Goldline Scottish Curling Tour begins this Friday 23rd September, with the Braehead Open.
There are 24 teams entered this year – including three teams from Europe as well as teams from England, Ireland and Wales. Current Scottish Junior Champions Team Jackson are playing in section A, also competing in section A are newly formed Team Smith (Hazel Smith, Sarah Reid, Laura Ritchie and Claire Hamilton). Last years Braehead Open winners Team Hardie (pictured, right) are playing in section B, alongside the World Junior Champions Team Mouat. They will be joined in Section B by Team Aitken – skipped by Scottish Mixed Doubles Champion Gina Aitken – and British Curling’s junior men Team Bryce.
Each team will play three games in the preliminary rounds; the first on Friday evening with two further games on Saturday. The opening two games in each section are pre-determined, with the following third round robin games based on the Shenkel League System of play. As with all Shenkel league games no team will play the same team twice. The competition splits into High, Middle and low Roads after the first three rounds.

The first Asham Under 17 Slam of the Season, the Stevenson Trophy, takes place at Lockerbie Ice Rink from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27thSeptember.
The Asham Under 17 Slam comprises five events with points being awarded at each event. The top three results from each team are accumulated to determine the overall winner and winning girls team. All games are 6 ends and teams can be male, female or mixed. Last years winners Team Kinnear are returning for the 2016/17 season, as are the top girls team from last season, Team Davie.
This competition offers young curlers the chance to play in a competitive atmosphere, within their own age group. Prizes for the overall Under 17 Slam winners include guaranteed selection for spaces at the WCF/DCV Hummelt Junior Curling Camp in Fussen, Germany in 2017 and Asham Curling Supplies vouchers.
