Curling This Weekend: From 6th November
In Edinburgh, Murrayfield Curling hosts the third event in the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour, the Edinburgh International, from Friday 6th November to Sunday 8th November. A strong field of 24 international and Scottish teams will be competing at this eagerly anticipated annual event including last weekend’s OVCA Superspiel Champions Team Mouat and European Playdowns finalists Team Brewster and winners Team Kyle Smith (pictured together, photo ©Brad Askew) who will be representing Scotland at the European Championships in Esbjerg, Denmark at the end of the month. They will be up against foreign opposition including the holders Abu Kauste from Finland and teams from Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and others. The format which gives points for the home teams in the quest for the Scottish championship is run on a section of six leading to quarters on Sunday.

Scotland’s Team Fleming – Hannah Fleming, Lorna Vevers (pictured, photo ©Richard Gray), Alice Spence, Abigail Brown – follow up their semi-final finish at last weekend’s Medicine Hat Charity Classic in Alberta with an appearance at the Colonial Square Ladies Classic in Saskatoon from Friday 6th November. They are among 31 teams competing at the triple knock-out event, with the top eight teams progressing to the qualifying rounds.

Sophie Jackson’s (right, photo ©WCF/Céline Stucki) Performance Foundation women’s squad (Naomi Brown, Rachel Halliday, Rachael Hannen) are also in Canada competing at the Thames Valley (London) Junior Bonspiel one of the events in the Ontario Curling Tour. This is a sixteen team triple knock-out event starting on Friday 6th November and drawing to its conclusion on Sunday 8th.

On Sunday 8th November The Royal Caledonian Curling Club’s annual Skill Awards Challenge takes place at Dewars Centre, Perth. This one day event features 16 teams comprising curlers who have all achieved an RCCC Skill Award. All games are four ends and play gets underway at 10am with finals and play-offs at 3:30pm.
