Curling This Weekend: What’s On 19-24 September

The European Mixed Curling Championship continues at Murrayfield Curling Rink, Edinburgh where defending Champions Scotland are aiming for a place in Friday’s quarter finals. They currently sit on 6 wins out of 7 heading into tonight’s (Thursday 19th September) final round robin game against Hungary at 19:00 hrs. Murdoch Brewster

The Shorty Jenkins Classic gets underway today, Thursday 19th September, in Brockville, Ontario, Canada where Team Muirhead (Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton) and Team Awaken Consulting (David Murdoch, Tom Brewster, Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews and Michael Goodfellow) will be competing. 24 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will be taking part in the competition which is played over four pools for the men and two for the women and runs until Sunday 22nd.

Logan Gray

The China Open also starts today where eight men’s and eight women’s teams will be competing at the Capital Gymnasium in Beijing. Two Scottish teams will be taking part, for the men Logan Gray (Skip – pictured right, photo: Richard Gray), Glen Muirhead (Third), Ross Paterson (Second) and Richard Woods (Lead) and for the ladies, Kerry Barr (Skip), Rachael Simms (Third), Rhiann Macleod (Second) and Barbara McPake (Lead).

Scottish Curling Tour WinnersThe Goldline Scottish Curling Tour (SCT) kicks off tomorrow, Friday 20th September, at Dumfries Ice Bowl with the Sulwath Open which runs until Sunday 22nd.

14 teams will be taking part across two groups including current Tour Champions, World Junior Champions and teams from overseas.Pictured left, Team Edwards, 2012 SCT Winners.

The top 5 from group 1, and the top 3 from group 2 qualify for the quarter finals on Sunday 22nd September.

Subject to availability of wifi, Dumfries Ice Bowl will have live streaming of one game every session during the weekend.

Bruce MouatCurl Braehead hosts the 2nd Braehead Junior International which also begins tomorrow 20th September. This is the first leg of the European Junior Tour for Junior Men and Junior Ladies Teams from across Europe including five teams from Switzerland and one team from Sweden.

Among the junior teams from Scotland will be Royal Club Academy teams Mouat (pictured right photo:©WCF/Richard Gray 2013), Taylor and Brydone for the boys and Young, Aitken and Murray for the girls. The event runs until Sunday 22nd where live web streaming of the Semi Finals and Finals will be provided online by Curl Braehead.

Hannah FlemingRCCC Performance Squad teams Fleming (Hannah Fleming, Lauren Gray, Jannifer Dodds, Alice Spence) and Vevers (Lorna Vevers, Rachel Hannen, Rebecca Kesley, Sarah Reid) are in Sweden for the Stockholm Ladies Curling Cup which begins tomorrow Friday 20th September at the Danderyd Curling Arena.
