Curling this weekend: What’s On 7-9 Dec
Play gets underway in the 2012 Le Gruyere European Curling Championships this Saturday 8th December where Scotland’s men and women will be playing in the Löfbergs Lila Arena in Karlstad, Sweden. We have a special European Championship Preview here.
Following last weekend’s qualifiers for The Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Women’s Championship we now turn our attention to qualification for the Scottish Senior Women’s and Scottish Junior Championships.
The Scottish Senior Women’s Championship Qualifiers take place from 7-9 December at Lockerbie Ice Rink. Qualification will determine which teams compete at the Scottish Senior Finals in February with the top three teams in each of four sections qualifying.
The Scottish Senior Women’s Curling Championship is an annual event open to curlers over the age of 50 with the best teams competing for the national title. Pictured – Barbara Watt’s 2012 Scottish Senior Champions and World Senior Silver medalists will be competing this weekend.
The Scottish Senior Women’s Champions will represent Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada from 13-20 Apr 2013.

The Scottish Junior Championships Qualifiers take place at Dewars Centre Perth also from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th December. This qualifying round determines the Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s teams that will compete for their respective Scottish Junior titles at the Finals from 23-27 January 2013 at Curl Aberdeen.
The Scottish Junior Championships is an annual event open to curlers under the age of 21.
The Scottish Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s Champions will represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships in Sochi, Russia from 28 Feb-10 Mar 2013.
At Stranraer Ice Rink this weekend 12 clubs will compete in the Double Rink Championship from 7-9 December. The Double Rink is a club competition consisting of two teams from each club playing against one another to generate a combined score based on points, ends and shots.
Games start at 3:30pm on Friday, 7 December. The semi-finals will take place on Sunday at 12 noon and the final will commence at 3:00pm.
Following a win in the Consolation Event of last week’s Cathy Kerr Memorial Bonspiel in Ottawa, Scotland’s World Class Wheelchair Performance Programme squad members, accompanied by Head Coach Tony Zummack, continue their tour at the US Open in Utica. The event runs from 7-9 December.
