Forfar Wins Rink Championship

Congratulations to Adrian White and his Forfar 2 (Fotheringham) team off Jill Donald, Graeme Nicoll & Andy Ducat.  Runners-up, Iain Watt and his Perth 1 (Dunning) team of Paul Martin, Bob Kelly, Greig Marshall & Sub Johnny Wilson.

Forfar Indoor Sports sponsored the Rink Championship which was held from 1st to 3rd March 2013. The 24 rinks were favoured with good fast ice and a nice draw.

The Quarters matched Stirling (Kilsyth) v Borders 1 (Ayton Castle) score 5 – 6, Borders stole one at the final end. Murrayfield 2 (Musketeers) v Forfar 2 (Fotheringham) score 3 – 5, Murrayfield had a double for the game but just missed out.  Aberdeen 2 (Meldrum & Daviot) v Perth 1 (Dunning) score 3 – 5, Aberdeen had a double for the game and again just missed out. Perth 2 (Dunning) v Perth 3 (Airleywight) score 3 – 6, Perth 3 were always in control.

The semi-finals matched Forfar 2 v Borders and Perth 3 v Perth 1. In the Forfar game there was nothing between the teams.  The game went to an extra end with the Forfar Skip playing a great shot round a guard to win 5 – 4.  Perth 1 received a bye to the final because of a misunderstanding of the substitution rule.

In the Final Forfar won the toss over Perth 1.  The first two ends were blanked with no team prepared to take a chance. Forfar were forced to take one in end three but managed a steal of two in end four.  Another steal in end five and six gave Forfar a 5 – 0. Final score being 5 – 1.

Thanks to all at Forfar for a well run competition.
