Hamilton Welcomes Go Coco Senior Championships

Following a hugely popular and successful Scottish Curling Championships in Perth last week, healthy drinks brand Go Coco continue their support for Scottish Curling as title sponsors of the Senior Championships which get underway at Lanarkshire Ice Rink, Hamilton this Wednesday 24th February.

The 2016 Scottish Curling Senior Championships sponsored by Go Coco coconut water is open to curlers over the age of 50 and brings together the best senior teams from across Scotland to compete for the national men’s and women’s senior titles. The winning senior men’s and women’s teams will also earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships later this year.

Twelve men’s teams and fourteen women’s teams will contest this year’s championships with both 2015 champions returning to defend their titles.

They will face stiff opposition in the men’s event with last year’s finalists and five time senior champions Team Prentice aiming to reclaim the title they last won in 2014.

Fresh from his National Masters success at Greenacres earlier this month, Graeme Adam, skips his senior rink in the event which he also won in 2008.

GibbAmongst the women’s field are the current champions Team Gibb (Kay Gibb pictured, photo © Richard Gray) who prevented a third consecutive senior title for Christine Cannon’s 2014 World Champions in last year’s final to see them represent Scotland in Sochi’s Winter Olympic arena. Cannon returns this year but is now skipped by the BBC’s Sochi Olympic commentator Jackie Lockhart, herself a prolific curling personality who has national and international titles under her belt and enters the senior game for the first time this year.

Barbara Watt’s 2012 Scottish Senior Champions and World Senior silver medallists also feature.
