Ladies President’s Blog No. 3

Hi Everyone,

On 11th September 2012 we had our Ladies Branch meeting, which was well attended and we got off to a good start.

I then went and watched my club Edinburgh Ladies start their season on Tuesday the 25th. Everyone was in great spirits and the ice at Murrayfield was looking great and very keen, which was just brilliant, as it was the Ladies first game back on the ice since March. My own curling commenced in the Sadie Anderson Competition at Ayr on Saturday 29th- Sunday 30th September, where good fun was had by all who took part. We had great support from all of the executive Committee with our own Gail Munro winning the competition.

On Monday the 1st of October we had our Ladies Branch meeting followed by Lunch and our Annual Bonspiel which was great for everyone to meet and chat. We had two visitors at our morning meeting, Kate Caithness our Honourable vice President and President of the W.C.F (World Curling Federation). We were very honoured Kate managed to attend as she has a very busy schedule even busier than mine! Our other visitor was my friend and fellow Edinburgh Lady Curler Sheila Clark, who came and gave a small talk about her tour to Sweden, who then went on and won the bonspiel with her team. (Sorry Ladies didn’t keep a list of the team names, but you will know who you are!).  Off to Stranraer next to play in the Under and Overs on Friday 5th – 7th October, 2 players over 25 (which I just made!!) and 2 under 25, this was well attended with 12 teams taking part.  We had 2 sections of 6, with 5 games guaranteed.  On the Saturday night we had a disco in the North West Castle and our own DJ (the great John Munro), all I can say is oh what a night!!

I was staying with my Junior Vice and friend Mary Anne, We all had a fabulous weekend with my sister Gwen who I drafted in with her team mate Helen, who showed us all how to party.  Next year girls!!  Again Gail Munro won, this time with her daughter Robin who is only 9, the youngest player ever to compete in this event.  Can you see a pattern here?

I had the following weekend off, while Fiona my Vice, presented the prizes at the Mixed Seniors in Stranraer on the 13th – 14th October. Thanks Fiona.

Friday 19th – Sunday 21st October I picked Fiona up in Perth and off we went to watch the European Play Downs in Aberdeen, sadly only two teams in this event, it was a long way to go with not many games to watch.  Eve Muirhead and Gail Munro being the only teams there, some very good curling, best of 5 games only needing to play 3.  Eve won and will now represent us at the European Championships in December.

Good Luck Eve and team, Anna, Vicky and Claire (Gold would look good and go with the gold medal she won playing in the mixed last month, which is the start of lots of medals I hope to have at my AGM @ Murrayfield on the 7th May 2013.) Inverness here I come!, Saturday 27th October and of to my first curlers court since being Maid (a few years back), I was replying to the Royal Club and I was staying with my good friend and fellow tourist Brenda, I had a great night, very entertaining watching seven Ladies going through, one of which was Eve Muirhead and one other being Brenda’s daughter Sarah, well done to you all!  But I must say I think you all got off very lightly.

Well I think I have gone on long enough now, so here’s to my next blog and good curling, might see some of you in Kinross on Friday 9th November, at another curlers court, or at Murrayfield at the Edinburgh International on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th November.
