Preview: Stirling Wheelchair International (Braehead)
The Stirling Wheelchair Curling Club is hosting an International Invitation event at intu Braehead from Monday 20th to Wednesday 22nd October. This event was relocated from The Peak in Stirling to Braehead after the temporary closure of The Peak’s curling rink.
Eight wheelchair curling teams will be participating including both the Paralympic Silver Medal winners Russia, and Aileen Neilson’s (pictured) Paralympic Bronze medal winners, GB (Scotland 1). The remaining teams are USA, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, Northern Ice ( England) and Scotland 2.
Scotland 1 line up with skip Aileen Neilson, regular third player Gregor Ewan and new front end of John Doyle and Debbie McKenna with David Leeson playing alternate. Scotland 2 line with Jim Gault, Hugh Nibloe, Robert McPherson and Angie Malone with Gill Keith playing alternate.
The round robin gets underway on Monday 20th October with games at 12 noon and 3.00pm. The same timings on Tuesday 21st and then 9.00am, 12 noon and final game at 3.00pm with the prize giving immediately after, on Wednesday 22nd October.
The event, supported by Stirling Council, the Scottish Wheelchair Curling Association, Fergusson Group, Allied Vehicles and Kerr Stirling, is a great showcase for wheelchair curling and it is hoped that it will inspire many to take up this skilful but very friendly sport.
