Nomination Secured for RCCC Chaplain
We are delighted to announce that we have secured a nomination for the next Chaplain for the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. Having not faced this situation for 29 years, the RCCC launched an open “recruitment” campaign to find a successor to Bill Holland who steps down at the AGM next week after a record period in this role. A small panel were delegated to meet the two applicants for the voluntary position and were impressed by their enthusiasm and interest that they showed for the role and had to make a difficult decision.
Alan Donaldson has agreed to have his name put forward to the members for appointment at the AGM and will be the eighteenth Chaplain for the RCCC. Alan (46) is an active member of Cadder Curling Club and was introduced to the sport through his children’s participation in Dumfries. He has previously served as Chaplain at several schools, a golf club and his own curling club. Alan has been in the ministry since 1992, working in Dumfries, Leven and Moscow. His current work is as the General Director of the Baptist Union of Scotland, a role that takes him across all of Scotland.
We look forward to introducing Alan to the members at the Annual General Meeting at Murrayfield Curling Rink on Saturday 13th June 2015, and helping him to develop the Chaplaincy role to support members of all faiths and none, when they find themselves looking for support at times of need, as well as carrying out some of the traditional duties that come with the role.
Alan will be formally appointed at the AGM which will take place on Saturday 13th June 2015.
