Team Craik Victorious in Aberdeen Asham Under 14 Slam
At the first Asham Under 14 Slam of the season at Curl Aberdeen, 11 October, teams skipped by Lisa Davie, James Craik and Emma Allardyce won their sections and were joined in the semi-finals by Kerr Waddell’s team who finished as the highest second placed team.
The semi-finals saw the girls’ teams meet each other and Kerr Waddell meet James Craik. Lisa Davie had a 6-1 win whilst the other semi-final was a much closer affair; James Craik faced two shots playing his last stone in the final end and cut his opposition down to 1 and take the game to an extra end in which his team scored 4.
The first end of the final saw a measure for one which went in Team Craik’s favour. Facing one shot against, Lisa Davie played a super hit and stick to take 2 and edge ahead after two ends. The all-girls team of Holly Turner, Sophie McDougall, Annabel Skuse and Lisa Davie got a stone hidden in a good position but a lovely raised-take out by James Craik with his last stone saw the boys take 2 shots and go 3-2 ahead. In the fourth end, Team Davie had a hit and stick for the game but Lisa hit and rolled out to take the final to an extra end. The extra end was kept open and the boys’ team of Sorley MacDonald, Campbell White, Angus Bryce and James Craik secured the win with a score of two. Pictured top L-R: Sorley, Campbell, Angus & James. The 3/4 play-off saw lots of stones in play and a very attacking approach by both teams. It was Kate Torrance’s team that got the head-start with 1 in the first end followed by consecutive steals of 1 in the 2nd and 3rd ends. The final and fourth end saw lead Alysia Rennie play a draw to the top 8 foot circle which was well guarded and Kerr Waddell’s team of Katie Frame, Ross Owen and Ann Fleming just couldn’t get rid of it, giving the all-girls team of Alysia Rennie, Emily Chambers, Kate Torrance and Emma Allardyce with the win (Pictured right L-R: Emma, Kate, Emily & Alysia).
