Team Scotland Confirm Line Up For Braehead Euro 2016

Both the men’s and women’s teams that will represent Scotland at the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships on home ice at intu Braehead Arena later this month have now been finalised, with Duncan Menzies from Arbroath being confirmed as fifth player for the men’s team skipped by Aberdeen’s Tom Brewster, and Kelly Schafer – who has been substituting for regular third player Anna Sloan – nominated as fifth player for Eve Muirhead’s team.

team-muirheadWith Sloan sidelined as she recovered from knee ligament surgery, Schafer has been playing with Muirhead since the start of the season, including in the national qualification event that Olympic bronze medallist Muirhead won to gain selection for her team.

kellyNow Sloan will re-take her place as third player, with Muirhead saying, ” Anna’s done a fantastic job in her rehab.  The team is in a good place now – we’ve had five different line-ups already this season, but now we’ll have a settled line-up.    Sloan said, ” I’m really excited and happy to be back. I’m feeling 100%…110% actually.”

The Scottish women’s team is Eve Muirhead at skip, third player Anna Sloan, second Vicki Adams, lead Lauren Gray and fifth player Kelly Schafer (pictured right), coached by Glenn Howard.

Duncan Menzies (left) joins the Scottish current champions – skip Tom Brewster, third Glen Muirhead, second player Ross Paterson and lead Hammy McMillan – in the men’s line-up, and skip Brewster says, “Duncan has filled in already for us this season, and we know what to expect – our coach (Canadian Mike Harris) knows him well too.”

team-brewsterSpeaking about that Brewster added, “I’m really looking forward to playing at home – Breahead is a really good arena to curl in, and hopefully we’ll have good crowds,”  He also said, ” For me now, it’s important to win medals and to be representing Scotland.  We finished seventh at the World Championship this year, but our performance was better than that and we’re now ready to take the next step up.”
