World Wheelchair B Championship Selections Confirmed

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club has today announced the athletes who will represent Scotland at the World Wheelchair B-Curling Championship (WWhBCC) in Lohja, Finland next month. They are:

Gregor Ewan
Angie Malone
Robert McPherson
Aileen Neilson
Hugh Nibloe

This is an experienced Performance squad who have between them represented both Great Britain and Scotland at the recent Winter Paralympics and World Wheelchair Curling Championships respectively. The team have been preparing for the B Championship with appearances at the Lucerne Wheelchair Curling Cup at the start of the month where they were finalists and last weekend at The Wheelchair Curling Tournament Wetzikon, Switzerland where they finished fourth.

Sheila Swan, Wheelchair Curling Head Coach said, “I am delighted with the level of commitment, effort and progress from all the athletes within the squad; this has resulted in growing competition for selection and made for some difficult decisions.  The selected team all has experience at international level and are looking forward to the challenge of the WWhBCC and the opportunity to return Scotland to the top flight of Wheelchair Curling.”

The B-Curling Championship is a qualifying event offering the winner and runner up places at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland in February 2016. Scotland are competing at this event after their tie-breaker loss to Germany at this year’s World Championship which saw them finish in eighth place and relegated to the B-division.

The squad will be aiming to secure the nation’s place back at the World Wheelchair Championship where Scotland last medalled with Silver in 2011.

The World Wheelchair B-Curling Championship takes place in Lohja, Finland from Saturday 7th to Thursday 12th November 2015
