2011 Scottish Ladies Tour to USA
31st December 2010
We can hardly believe that just eleven and a half months ago we were selected by the RCCC Ladies Branch to tour America. Much planning and preparation has taken place since then and as you can see from our official tour photograph we are now ready for the off. Our tour tartan is Modern Odyssey and looks very smart with the blue blazer.
Under the expert guidance of Captain Brenda Macintyre, the Ladies’ Branch President and Vice Captain Caroleen Clark we are about to embark on a trip of a life time. As a group we have met on several occasions and everyone has been very involved in pulling the whole trip together. We leave Scotland on 6th January 2011 arriving in Boston the same day. We travel from East to West across Northern America finishing in Seattle on the 31st January. Our five teams, will play a total of 121 games during the trip. To follow our progress and keep up to date with our total score follow the link here.

Weekend at Ayr, Sadie Anderson Bonspiel: 24-26th September 2010: The weekend meeting of those curlers selected for the outgoing Ladies tour in January, took place on the sunny west coast at Ayr. All twenty ladies were there to curl well, have fun and plan some of the finer details of the trip
We have become friends off the ice, since selection, some months ago. The time had arrived for the five teams, all colour coded, to put our skills to the test and play for our new skips.
The sponsored Sadie Anderson weekend competition was an ideal venue–keen ice, good opposition and fine hospitality at Ayr Ice Rink. We were made very welcome and took to the ice with great trepidation and some new shoes. Most of us had no idea of the rest of our team’s ability or skip’s commands. No need to worry-apart from all skips shouting “sweep” or “don’t sweep” at once and in their various dialects, the ladies all melded as teams and gave of their best.
Off the ice, meeting the other competitors and catching up after the summer break, quickly filled the two days. Back at the Horizon Hotel, some finerl details of the tour uniform were decided. Even a singing practice took place, once the other diners had gone. Thank you to hotel staff for permission.
On Sunday the competition continued with two more games. There was a happy atmosphere with much laughter as well as confident skipping and keen curling.
The entire weekend was a great success, followed up by email messages amonst all the ladies – can’t wait for January!
29th June 2010: After the applications closed in November 2009 the selection committee chose twenty ladies to represent Scotland for the tour to the USA in January 2011.
During the build up to the trip we hope that via this page we will be able to keep viewers up to speed with our plans and also introduce you to the 20 ladies going on the trip.
We have already had five meetings in Hamilton, Perth, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Stirling. Here we all are enjoying a glass of bubbly at our first meeting.
Our flights to America have been booked and we fly out from Edinburgh via Heathrow on Thursday the 6th January 2011, returning on 1st February.
We have been very busy choosing our on ice uniform and our tartan- more info on these items at a later date. Our blue blazers have been ordered from Slaters, so soon we will be busy sewing on our royal club badges & flashes.
