National Masters Curling Championships

18th-21st January 2018 – Greenacres Curling Rink

Greenacres plays host to some of Scotland’s most experienced curlers as the first national titles of 2018 will be decided. After coming through qualifying in December, the men’s field is littered with international representatives and previous Scottish Champions, a feat matched by the women’s teams. Play will begin on the 18th in two sections ahead of semi-finals and finals on Sunday. Keep up to date with scores here 

 

Asham Under 14 Slam – Lockerbie

20th January 2018 – Lockerbie Ice Rink

The final Asham Under 14 Slam of the season takes place at Lockerbie on Saturday with 16 teams of budding young curlers gunning for glory. Some curlers were be experiencing their first competitions and a display of great skill and friendship is sure to follow. The race for the season-ending prizes looks like it will come down to the wire. Teams Munro and Carson are locked at the top of the leaderboard on 45 points but the Braehead Rockers and Team McCormack are close behind on 42 and 39 points respectively. The best three results per team count towards the overall prize. Keep up to date with scores here 

Four Nations

19th-21st January 2018 – Stranraer Ice Rink

The Four Nations is a weekend tournament between the governing bodies of each of the home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales). Individual competitions will be contested throughout the weekend between each of the nations with men’s, women’s and mixed games counting towards overall totals. Ireland are hosting the 2018 Four Nations after securing a clean sweep last year, but regardless of the competitive outcome an incredibly special and social weekend is assured.

 

Grand Slam of Curling – Meridian Canadian Open

16th-21st January 2018 – Camrose, Alberta, Canada

The first Grand Slam of 2018 takes place in Alberta, Canada with Camrose hosting the Canadian Open. This marks the fourth slam of the season and sees domestic interest in the form of Boost National Champions, Team Mouat. This triple knockout tournament began on Tuesday and Team Mouat started with a win against the 2018 Canadian Olympic team, Team Kevin Koe before dropping down to the B-side after a loss to Jason Gunnlaugson. Their next game is against the USA Olympic representatives, Team Shuster and they will be hoping to get those 3 wins they need to get to the playoffs.

 

Glynhill Ladies International

18th-21st January 2018 – intu Braehead, Glasgow

Two Scottish Curling Academy teams are taking part in this weekend’s Glynhill WCT Ladies Tour Event in Brahead. They face a really strong International field including many Olympic teams spearheaded by GB’s representatives Team Muirhead in the lead-up to PyeongChang. This is an excellent chance to see some high quality curling from some of the best international teams on your doorstep.

Team Morrison; Rebecca Morrison; Amy MacDonald; Hailey Duff; Leeanne Mckenzie- coach Tom Andrews  gained their spot through their performance in the Asham U21 Slam series and are joined (in the absence of top ranked Team Davie) by Team Bryce; Amy; Molly Keen; Layla Al-Saffar; Jane Barr – coach Ali Cunningham who won the pot on merit also by being ranked third after 3 events in the Slam series.

Also featuring are Team Katie Jackson; Inca Maguire; Joanna Sutherland; Mollie Marley Miligan; Caitlin Jones; and sub on Saturday Fay Henderson, one of the up-and-coming young teams on the fringes of Academy who grabbed the chance to fill the last spot in the draw after the withdrawal of Korea Ladies and will be supported by PDC David Ramsay during the event. They are joined by domestic and sisterly rivals Team Sophie Jackson as well as Team Hamilton, Team Wilson and Team Fleming who will be looking to tune up before the Scottish Championships in February.

Johnston Carmichael Scottish Curling Junior Championships

23rd-28th January 2018 – Curl Aberdeen, Aberdeen

Starting next Tuesday, these Scottish Championship lead to the Johnston Carmichael supported World Juniors in Aberdeen in March, so a huge prize will make this event a great watch. The men’ Championships is perhaps the most open in recent years with a different Asham 21 Slam winner at every competition this season. All the rapidly improving young ladies teams have to take on the world Silver medallists, Team Sophie Jackson, who are defending their title. A full preview will be on the website on Monday.
