Mental Health & Wellbeing
At Scottish Curling, we believe that everyone involved in curling should feel supported, included, and able to thrive both on and off the ice.
That’s why we are proud signatories of Scotland’s Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport, led by SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health).
The Charter aims to improve equality and reduce discrimination, ensuring that mental health and wellbeing are never barriers to engaging, participating, and achieving in sport.
As part of our commitment:
- The Scottish Curling staff team has completed the SAMH Mental Health Charter Route Map training programme.
- We are embedding mental health and wellbeing into our organisational culture and everyday practice.
- We have developed an action plan to help us continue creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for staff, volunteers, members, and the wider curling community.
The Charter is built around four key commitments:
Promote. Include. Collaborate. Reflect.
These principles help organisations:
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
- Create welcoming and inclusive environments.
- Share learning and collaborate across communities.
- Review progress and recognise impact.
Our Action Plan
We are committed to taking practical action to support mental health and wellbeing across Scottish Curling.
Our current priorities include:
- Staff wellbeing and mental health training.
- Mental Health First Aid training.
- Flexible and supportive working practices.
- Wellbeing resources and signposting.
- Ongoing learning opportunities for volunteers and members.
- Regular wellbeing conversations and reflective practice.

Why Mental Health Matters in Sport
Physical activity and sport can have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing, while supportive sporting environments can help people feel connected, valued, and included.
We recognise that everyone’s mental health journey is different, and we want curling in Scotland to be a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for all.
Join the Charter
We encourage curling clubs across Scotland to sign up to the Charter and help create mentally healthy sporting environments throughout our sport. Once you have signed up SAMH can support you through the process.
Hundreds of organisations across Scotland have already committed to the Charter movement, from grassroots clubs to national governing bodies.
