BORGUE PRIMARY ARE THE FIRST EVER STEWARTRY FLOOR CURLING BONSPIEL CHAMPIONS
After 10 days of Floor Curling action across local schools, Borgue Primary snatched the Stewartry Floor Curling Bonspiel trophy. Kirkcudbright Primary finished runners-up while Castle Douglas Primary rounded out the podium.

Starting on 5 December 2022, an incredible 13 schools across Stewartry ran their local FloorCurl competitions to decide who would represent them on finals day. In a round robin format, p6 or p7 (large school) and p5-7 (small school) pupils curled it out. All participants received a certificate, and the winners were even awarded a medal.
The triumphant teams from each school met on 14 December for the first-ever Stewartry Floor Curling Championship. A fun afternoon concluded with Team Logan of Borgue Primary taking the honours and the trophy. Kirkcudbright Primary’s Team Saints Curlers came in second while Team Ross of Castle Douglas Primary snatched the final podium spot.
Olympic silver medallist and Scottish Curling Development Manager for the area Scott Andrews awarded the teams with their medals. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and excitement around the bonspiel from everyone involved.
Prior to the championship, over 20 sports leaders from Castle Douglas High School, Dalbeattie High School, and Kirkcudbright Academy took part in a Ready, Steady, Curl leadership workshop delivered by Scott Andrews. All participating classes and teachers received a taster session and CPD. Additionally, all Stewartry coaches were trained and initiated the delivery of seven extra-curricular clubs across the area – all before the schools curling week and bonspiel even began!
Thank you to Stewartery Active Schools and Community Sport, Active Schools, Disability Sport Development, and all participating schools for making this event such a great success. Thanks also goes to Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership for supporting the programme with generous donations.
