Curl Aberdeen and Team Rutherford triumph at Perth Asham U14 Slam
Congratulations to Team Rutherford who became Low Road winners and Curl Aberdeen who triumphed in the High Road section at the Asham Under 14 Slam taking place on 5th February at Dewars Centre in Perth.
Many thanks to Athlin Phillips for providing the report below.
This round of the Asham Under 14 Slam series was originally scheduled to be played on the 18th of December, but unfortunately covid restrictions and the Omicron variant meant it was postponed to early February.
12 teams were split into three sections of four and each section played a round robin to decide who qualified into the High and Low Road competitions. The games were played over four ends and there was a fantastic level of curling shown by all the players.

Low Road Winners: Team Rutherford
The semi finalists were decided after the third and final round robin game with Curl Aberdeen, Stirling YC, Forfar Mixed and Dumfries 2 all going through in the High Road while Rutherford, Hamilton YC 1, Rankin, and Grant made up the Low Road draw.
Again, there was some excellent curling on display with Curl Aberdeen and Dumfries 2 proving strongest and coming away as comfortable winners in their respective High Road matches. The Low Road saw a close game between Rutherford and Hamilton YC 1. Rutherford were two up without the hammer in the final end and managed to ensure the team from Hamilton only scored a single. A final was set up against Team Grant who managed a couple of stolen ends in their game to secure the win over Team Rankin.
The finals and play-off games got underway at 4pm and it was a strong start by Curl Aberdeen in the High Road final, settling any nerves in the best way with a three in the first end. Dumfries played a good second end to score two but another score of two for Curl Aberdeen followed by a blanked last end meant the final score was 5-2 to Curl Aberdeen – a well-deserved win after a great day of curling from the young team from Aberdeen. Forfar Mixed played well to win 6-1 over Stirling YC to complete the High Road games.

High Road Winners: Curl Aberdeen
The Low Road final between Rutherford and Grant was level after the first two ends with each team scoring a two. A score of one for Rutherford in the third which they followed up with a steal of one in the final end earned them the win – great curling by the young team from Kinross! Team Rankin were successful in the Low Road 3/4 game with a 3-1 win over Hamilton YC1.
A fantastic day of curling, with the young players showing some great potential for the future. Thanks to Perth Trophy Shop for once again supplying us with lovely trophy mementos for the winning teams.
