CURL ABERDEEN WIN SEASON’S FINAL ASHAM U17 SLAM IN PERTH

Congratulations to Team Curl Aberdeen (Ethan Brewster, Sam Lynch, Marc Lyon, Luke Perras, Fraser Riddoch) who triumphed at the Perth Under 17 Open. They comprehensively saw off Team Kyle (Stewart Kyle, Jack Halliday, Edward Hanna, Owen Kennedy) (Dumfries) 6-1 in the final to secure victory in the last Asham Under 17 Slam of the season.

Curl Aberdeen went undefeated through their Section E games, a draw the only slight dent in their record, to secure their spot in the play-offs, albeit having to go through the quarter-finals. Up against Team Rutherford (Finlay Rutherford, Calum Stewart, Cameron Lindsay, Finlay McGregor) (Kinross) they secured a narrow win that saw them progress to the semi-finals where they comfortably beat Team McConnachie (Sam McConnachie, Jamie Gorton, Tom Cormack, Euan van Aswegan, Christopher Halley) (Perth).

Meanwhile, sitting on a perfect record of wins after the Section C games, Team Kyle progressed straight to the semi-finals. They faced Team Archibald (Katie Archibald, Tia Laurie, Katie Donald, Jessica Trotter) (Dumfries) in a low-scoring, tense game. It took until End 5 for the deadlock to be broken, but Team Kyle edged the win with three points to two.

And so it was on to the final where Team Curl Aberdeen had the far brighter start. They scored two in the opening end and went on to steal in the next three, leading 6-0 after four ends and giving their opponents a mountain to climb. A single in End 5 was not enough to get Team Kyle back in the game and handshakes were exchanged early. In the play0off for third, Team McConnachie snatched the win from Team Archibald 4-3.
