HOME SIDE TEAM MCKENZIE SNATCH WIN AT ASHAM U14 SLAM IN PERTH

Many congratulations to Team McKenzie (Islay McKenzie, Stewart Hamilton, Hannah Lindsay, Isla Clemie) (Dewars Centre, Perth) who won their home Asham Under 14 Slam. They beat Team Seftor (Amy Seftor, Clare Cassells, Kirrin Burgess, Isla Kay) (Curl Edinburgh) by a single point.

Team McKenzie had an emphatic start to proceedings with a 7-1 win and continued just that way with a 7-2 triumph to add to their record. Indeed, they concluded their group games with a 7-0 victory to comfortably top the standings and roar into the High Road semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Team Seftor opened their campaign with a draw versus Dumfries Boys (Joe Morrison, Callum Morrison, Euan Brown, Finlay Pedersen) and had some work left to do. They rose to the challenge and recorded a 5-1 before wrapping up the group games with an 8-0 triumph. However, Greenacres 1 (Emma Bacon, Kathryn Smith, Annie Tsang, Lily Barr) had started off with two wins and added a draw in their final fixture to match Team Seftor on points. The decision went to ends won with Team Seftor prevailing on nine to seven.

Meanwhile in Section B, no less than three teams finished the group stage on the same record. Curl Aberdeen (Finlay McGregor, Eilidh Buchan, James Grant, Ellie Anderson, Evie McGregor) had the advantage on eight ends and progressed to the High Road. Team Skea (Morag Skea, Amber Perras, Charlotte Brewster, Rachel Grant) (Curl Aberdeen) and Team Jolly (Dougal Jolly, Ruaridh McCartney, Fraser Lindsay, Angus Lindsay) (Forfar) couldn’t be separated on ends either though and the former bagged a Low Road spot courtesy of S/U numbers.

In Section A Team Kelly (Lewis Kelly, Daniel Drummie, Josh Watson, Lewis Rose) (Lanarkshire) had started the competition with two wins and a draw in their final fixture was enough to top the table ahead of Team Bauer (Aaron Bauer, Lewis Mathieson, Thomas Matheson, Ben Alexander) (Stirling).

On to the semi-finals! Team McKenzie were off to a flyer versus Curl Aberdeen with steals in the first two ends. When they stole another three in End 3, Curl Aberdeen opted to concede with stones to spare, 6-0 the final scoreline. Meanwhile, Team Seftor had a quiet start to their semi-final versus Team Kelly with a single score. However, they made up for it with multi-steals in the next three ends to walk out 9-0 winners.

The final was far less straightforward. Team Seftor opened with a single steal, but Team McKenzie immediately fought back and took the lead with a deuce in End 2. Copying the feat, Team Seftor clinched two and were back in front, but, coming down with hammer in the last end, Team McKenzie once more took two and clinched victory by a point.

In the play-off for third Curl Aberdeen collected for successive steals to walk out 7-0 winners.
