RCCC AGM 2022 – SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS

The 184th Annual General Meeting of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club took place on 20 August 2022 in Curl Edinburgh.

A message of goodwill from Her Majesty the Queen, the RCCC’s Royal Patron, was read out. The normal business was carried out with Susan Kesley reporting on her year as President, handing the baton on to Mike Ferguson as the President for 2022-23. Jimmy Raeburn was elected as Vice President to follow on thereafter.

The members recognised some outstanding achievements from the last season that included recovery from covid restrictions and a string of results achieved on the world stage including Olympic Gold and Silver for the Team GB Women and Men respectively. World Golds in Mixed Doubles and Junior Men’s disciplines as well as the historic Double European Champions in November 2021. Seven members were recipients in the Queen’s birthday honours in June 2022.

The board faced a motion of no confidence from Crocketford Curling Club which did not achieve the required 75 per cent majority. Nonetheless, the Board welcomes feedback and input from members and will take onboard the key points raised.

The Waldie-Griffith Trophy was presented to Midlothian Province.  Six teams were recognised for achieving the coveted 8-ender awards, seven clubs were awarded medals for reaching 150 years’ membership and two clubs for 100 years.  A total of 38 members were awarded medals for being members of RCCC for 50 years.  Scottish Curling Awards were presented to James Craik (Junior Curler of the Year), Elspeth Burton (Grassroots Coach of the Year), Team J Craik (Junior Team of the Year), The British Olympic Women’s Gold Medallists were awarded Team of the Year, and the Ice Diamond award for outstanding contribution to the sport was presented to Jenny Barr.

Following the pandemic related disruption of the last two years, the organisation and the sport face the challenge of energy costs which requires even greater collaboration, and for the board and members to work together to secure the future of curling in Scotland.
