RCCC Royal Patronage

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club is delighted to announce His Majesty King Charles III has graciously accepted the position of Patron of the club.

As a symbol of the enduring connection between the monarchy and Scotland’s “Roaring Game” of curling, this appointment marks a significant moment in the club’s storied history.

With the King’s support, the Royal Caledonian Curling Club is poised to continue promoting and preserving the rich tradition of curling for generations to come.

“We are deeply honoured by His Majesty’s acceptance of the Patronage of our club,” said James Raeburn, President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. “His support underscores the importance of curling in Scotland’s cultural heritage, and we are excited to work closely with the monarchy to further promote the sport both nationally and internationally.”

Curling, holds a special place in Scottish culture with its origins dating back centuries. Today, the Royal Caledonian Curling Club stands as the governing body for the sport in Scotland, overseeing competitions, fostering grassroots development, and upholding the values of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Chief Executive Vincent Bryson was delighted to receive the confirmation from Buckingham Palace earlier this week.

“The Royal Caledonian Curling Club has been the driving force for curling since 1838 and we are of course honoured by the news King Charles has accepted the patronage of the club. It is fantastic news and I am sure our members will be delighted to share it amongst their friends, club mates and families”.

The club was formed as the Grand Caledonian Curling Club in 1838, becoming ‘Royal’ when Prince Albert graciously bestowed his patronage in 1842. Ever since, the club has fostered Olympic and World champions alongside custodianship of the Rules of the Game.
