Both teams have performed fantastically; the men unbeaten, and the women dropping just a single game in their journey to this stage of the competition.

We can’t wait to cheer on Team Scotland tonight, and into the weekend as they continue their dominant form.

The Benefits of Recast…

We wrote to Scottish Curling members yesterday, informing them of our decision to become an affiliate partner of the World Curling Federation’s ‘Curling Channel’ on Recast.

To give some background, The WCF has chosen to use the platform to make a bit of money back from its video content from its international competitions.

This is a break from the previous practice of using YouTube which attracted some 4 million viewers last season.

The benefit of using Recast is that it means some of the costs of hosting international events can be recovered, and users can access high quality curling content for free by watching adverts or they can pay to view uninterrupted coverage.

The quality of the production remains high with the World Curling Federation employing expert technicians and broadcast teams along with quality commentators for all their events.

Should the Recast platform be a success for the World Curling Federation, their intention is to expand the broadcast coverage, rather than featuring one or two games per session they may be able to cover all games per session in future.

This clearly has an advantage for Scotland fans where our teams have historically only been shown on the live stream YouTube channel a few times per event. So by supporting the Recast platform we hope to get an increase in the coverage of Scotland’s games at European and World Championships in future.

Recast – the feedback so far

Scottish Curling had little choice in how to proceed, so has embraced the ‘Curling Channel’ on Recast.

The feedback we’ve received has been mixed, with some members critical of the platform. Most, however, may not be fully in agreement with the change but realise this is the path that’s been chosen, and we must find the positives.

We will gain a small revenue from the views we promote on the Recast platform. This revenue will not be used to fund elite teams or programs, rather to fund grass roots initiatives.

Please use the link shared by us above to watch Scotland’s women V Germany at 7pm GMT to ensure Scotland gets the benefit.

New users of Recast should follow Scottish Curling on Recast here where you can see previous and upcoming Scotland games.

Existing users should search for “Scottish Curling” and follow our channel, using it to view content.

The Scottish Curling Junior Championships are on at Curl Aberdeen at the same time this week, and orginisers there are showing tonight’s Euros game on their big screen. Why not pop along and soak up the atmosphere?

Should be a great night!
