The Scottish Curling Championships, 2018

A competition session kicked off the 2018 Scottish Curling Championships as the favourites didn’t have it all their own way. The pick of the results was Team McNay’s 7-6 win over Team Drummond. Skip Cameron McNay admitted it had been difficult after disappointment at the Scottish Juniors: “It’s great to be here, although we did take some time to recover from the juniors. I think we have every chance this week.” After beating one of the most experienced teams at the event, and the favourite in some quarters McNay was upbeat: “It’s a big win for us for sure, hopefully we can keep it up during the week, we’re very pleased with how we played.”

Elsewhere, junior runner-up Team Kinnear toughed it out against the experienced Team Shaw. Team Brewster and Team Mouat won in nervy extra ends over Team Taylor and Team Hare respectively. Finally, Team Bryce scored a big 4 in a convincing 9-2 win over Team Young.

The first women’s draw yesterday evening saw a convincing win for Team Jackson. A score of 4 in the third end for Team Jackson helped them seal the win over Team Hamilton. Team Morrison had a close game with Team Wilson but after stealing in the last two ends, Team Morrison secured their win. Play continues today at 10am.
