STREET RINK FEATURES AT KIDZ TO ADULTZ EXHIBITION
We were delighted to be part of the Kidz to Adultz event held at Ingliston Show Ground, Edinburgh on Thursday 8 September. Our Street Rink was busy throughout and a guest appearance from Sweep made the day all the more special.
The Kidz to Adultz exhibition, run by Disabled Living, offers attendees an opportunity to receive up-to-date advice and explore the latest developments in areas such as mobility, sport, funding, communication, transition, employment, and more. It was a busy day with plenty of stalls offering mobility aids and services, as well as seminars being held throughout the day for professionals and families.
As a fully inclusive discipline, curling was an ideal sport to feature at the event. We sat up camp with the Street Rink in the Fun Zone where we provided attendees with an opportunity to try something new and fun. A huge number of visitors enjoyed trying their hand at curling with many hoping to transfer to an on-ice session.
There also was a special guest appearance from Sweep who had a great time meeting lots of young people as well as adults and sharing the joys of curling.
‘Kidz to Adultz gave me an opportunity to work with a range of people with different disabilities and conditions, and get their feedback on how we can make our sport more inclusive,’ said Isla McLennan, disability and inclusion development officer at Scottish Curling. ‘There were several people who needed adjustments made to enhance their playing ability. Going forward, these experiences and conversations will help us make sure we are able to meet the needs of all curlers and our game is as inclusive as it can be.’
Many thanks to Kidz to Adultz for having us at the event. We can’t wait for the next one!
