TEAM ARCHIBALD TRIUMPH AT ASHAM U17 SLAM IN LOCKERBIE TO CLAIM STEVENSON TROPHY

Congratulations to Team Archibald (Katie Archibald, Tia Laurie, Katie Donald, Jessica Trotter, Zac Trotter) who won the Asham Under 17 Slam in Lockerbie. The Dumfries outfit beat rivals Curl Aberdeen (Ethan Brewster, Sam Lynch, Marc Lyon, Luke Perras, Fraser Riddoch) 5-3 in the final to clinch the Stevenson Trophy.

Both drawn in Section C, the eventual finalists Team Archibald and Curl Aberdeen met first during the group stages. With the sides trading singles and the encounter ending in an undecided 3-3 on that occasion, the stage was set for an exciting finale.

Their fortunes, however, were slightly different going into the game. Curl Aberdeen had secured an emphatic 10-3 win in their semi-final against Forfar’s Team Scanston. Team Archibald meanwhile had fought through a long and tense extra end game to secure a 7-4 win against fellow Dumfries side Team Kyle, adding an extra element to the decisive final encounter.

The Aberdonians were first on the board when they stole two in the second end. However, their Dumfries rivals struck back immediately. Team Archibald first equalised and went on to steal in two consecutive ends. With the gap up to three points, Ethan Brewster’s side faced a tough challenge in the last end to keep the game alive. Despite a great effort, only a single point went Curl Aberdeen’s way and they could not stop Team Archibald from taking the win.
