TEAM GRANT CLINCH HAMILTON TROPHY AT ASHAM U17 SLAM

Many congratulations to Team Grant (Callum Grant, Ben Rankin, Gregor Troup, Fraser Rankin) (Greenacres) who triumphed at the Asham Under 17 Slam at Lanarkshire Ice Rink. They beat Team Soutar (Callie Soutar, Eva Hare, Holly Clamie, Alison Hamilton) (Forfar) 5-3 in a second half charge to clinch the Hamilton Trophy.

Team Grant went undefeated in Section B, the only minor dent in their performance a draw with Team Cullerton (Elliot Cullerton, Islay McKenzie, Jamie Gorman, Julia Broadwood) (Edinburgh), to roar into the High Road semi-finals. Up against Team Zen Curling (George Watmough, Oliver Ablett, Declan McCann, Ollie Johnson, Niall McLoughlin) (Preston), they made the difference in the first two ends when first scoring a deuce and then forcing their opponents to a single. From there, the sides traded scores and the final result read 5-4.

Meanwhile, Team Soutar won all of their games in Section C to book an undisputed place in the High Road semi-final where they faced Section B runners-up Team Hall (Andrew Hall, Murray Gibb, Erin Roche, Alistair Tuck) (Lanarkshire). Starting the game with a three-points score, Team Soutar were running away with it from the get-go and progressed to the final with a 7-2 win.

After a blank first end in the final, Team Soutar once more took the advantage with a three-points score. However, Team Grant were able to retaliate with a deuce, meaning they trailed by a point at the break. That gap was swiftly bridged when the Greenacres side stole one at the restart and levelled the game. Single steals were the theme of the second half as Team Grant went on to add two more of the sort to their tally and won the game 5-3.

In the play-off for third, Team Hall comprehensively saw off Team Zen Curling. Elsewhere, Team Rutherford (Finlay Rutherford, Tom Cormack, Cameron Lindsay, Rory Stevenson) (Kinross) clinched victory over Team Halliday (Jack Halliday, Zac Trotter, Owen Kennedy, Edward Hanna) (Dumfries) in the Low Road final.
