TEAM HALLIDAY TAKE STEVENSON TROPHY AT ASHAM U17 SLAM IN LOCKERBIE
Many congratulations to Team Halliday (Jack Halliday, Zac Trotter, Owen Kennedy, Edward Hanna) (Dumfries) who won the opening Asham Under 17 Slam of the season. They beat Team Brewster (Ethan Brewster, Luke Perras, Morag Skea, Amber Perras) (Curl Aberdeen) in the High Road final to clinch the Stevenson Trophy in Lockerbie.
A packed field of four sections contested the trophy in Lockerbie. Section A was dominated by Team Brewster who collected two wins and one draw to progress as table toppers. The draw came to Team Huntly (Layla Huntly, Erin McCluskey, Jason Mann, Callie McMinn) (Dumfries) who finished runners-up in the group.
Section B was even more straightforward as Team Halliday won all their games and sat at the top of the standings uncontested. Team Grant (Callum Grant, Ben Rankin, Gregor Troup, Fraser Rankin) (Greenacres) were best of the rest, having won all of their fixtures bar the one versus Team Halliday.
In contrast, Section C went right down to the wire with three teams all on two wins. The sides were eventually ranked based on ends, Team Whyte (Callum Whyte, Stewart Hamilton, Fraser Young, Niamh Taylor) (Perth) prevailing on 11. Team Hall (Andrew Hall, Murray Gibb, Jennifer Ward, Erin Roche) (Lanarkshire) were runners-up on 10 while Team Seftor (Amy Seftor, Clare Cassells, Rachel Eadie, Isla Kay, Kirrin Burgess) (Curl Edinburgh) missed out on 8.
Section D, again, was a clean-cut affair. Team Soutar (Callie Soutar, Eva Hare, Holly Clemie, Alison Hamilton) (Forfar) won all their games for an undisputed top. Meanwhile, Team Scanstone (Callum Skea, Donald Robertson, Jamie Jones, Ben Watson) (Forfar) were runners-up with a two-in-one record.
On to the High Road semi-finals, contested by the group winners. Team Whyte opened the scoring with a single versus Team Halliday, but the Dumfries side bounced back with a three in End 2. Team Halliday went on to steal consecutive deuces to extend their advantage and there was little their opponents could do to stop them, 7-2 the final score.
Elsewhere, Team Brewster started strong with a three-points steal versus Team Soutar and they continued with further steals, only interrupted by a blank. Eventually, with 8-0 on the scoreboard, Team Soutar opted to shake hands with an end to spare.
Going into the final, the first strike went to Team Halliday who opened the fixture with a two. Team Brewster could only respond with a single and when their opponents added another deuce to their tally, the game was already fairly one-sided at half time. Team Halliday stole one at the restart to further stretch the gap. Team Brewster faced a mountain to climb and when they were held to a single in the fifth, the conceded on 5-2.
In the play-off for third, Team Soutar got the better off Team Whyte by 10 points to 2. Full results are available here.
