TEAM KYLE DOUBLE UP AT FORFAR ASHAM U17 SLAM

Congratulations to Team Kyle (Stewart Kyle, Jack Halliday, Edward Hanna, Owen Kennedy) who doubled up at the Asham Under 17 Slam in Forfar. They saw off fellow Dumfries side Team Archibald (Katie Archibald, Tia Laurie, Katie Donald, Jessica Trotter) in the HR final to secure a second consecutive victory.

Having won the previous Asham Under 17 Slam, Team Kyle went into the competition with the momentum on their side. Indeed, the Dumfries outfit went through the section games undefeated to progress to the HR semi-finals. Equally undefeated, although their record included a draw, Curl Aberdeen (Ethan Brewster, Sam Lynch, Marc Lyon, Luke Perras, Fraser Riddoch) lined up a play-off challenge. The sides traded deuces to start the game and a blank meant that nothing could separate the sides after three ends. Team Kyle dealt the first punch with three points from End 4 that Curl Aberdeen chipped away on with a won and a stolen single. However, they were running out of ends and the game finished 5-4 in Team Kyle’s favour.

Elsewhere, Team Archibald bagged wins throughout in Section B and faced Team Sharp (Cara Thomson, Jessica Sharp, Christopher Hally, Emma Whyte, Lucy Craig) (Perth) in the HR semi-finals who also progressed with a perfect record. Team Sharp had the brighter start to the game, scoring two and stealing one to build an early advantage. Team Archibald slowly fought back with a single in End 3 but swiftly took the momentum from End 4 onwards with consecutive two-points steals. A single point in End 6 was not enough for Team Sharp to bridge the gap and a 5-4 win sent Team Archibald to the final.

Team Kyle took a hold of the final from the get-go, scoring and stealing singles in the opening two ends. The third end finally had Team Archibald on the board, but their one point only marginally cut the deficit. A deuce for Team Kyle immediately cancelled out any progress their fellow Dumfriesians might have made and a single steal in End 5 all but decided the encounter. The sixth end didn’t need to be completed for Team Kyle to bag victory on five points to one. Meanwhile in the play-off for third, Team Sharp comprehensively beat Curl Aberdeen 6-1.
