TEAM RUTHERFORD BAG SECOND CONSECUTIVE ASHAM U14 SLAM WIN IN FORFAR

Congratulations to Team Rutherford (Finlay Rutherford, Rory Stevenson, Douglas Brown, Charlie Watson) who doubled up at the Asham Under 14 Slam series. The Kinross outfit emerged victorious at the previous slam in Aberdeen and repeated the feat in Forfar.

Unbeaten in Section C, Team Rutherford progressed to the HR semi-final where they met equally undefeated Team Sharp (Islay McKenzie, Callum Whyte, Natalie McGregor, Mitchell McGregor) (Perth). Team Rutherford took hold of the game early, scoring four points in the opening end. They went on to steal one`before the teams traded singles for the final two ends, adding up to a final result of 6-1 in the Kinross side’s favour.

In the other semi-final, unbeaten Team Seftor (Amy Seftor, Clare Cassells, Rachel Eadie, Isla Kay) (Edinburgh/Kinross) faced Team Dodds (Oliver Dodds, Murray Gibb, Erin Roche, Emma Gardiner) (Hamilton), sitting on two wins and one defeat. Team Seftor opened the scoring with one in the first end, but Team Dodds immediately retaliated and took the lead with three. Capitalising on the momentum, the Hamilton outfit went on to steal singles in the remaining ends to win by five points to one.

Incidentally, Team Rutherford and Team Dodds played each other in their first match of the slam, the Kinross side emerging victorious on that occasion, and were now set to meet again in their last. Team Rutherford were first on the board with a single in End 1, but Team Dodds fought back to take the lead with a deuce. Once more, Team Rutherford retaliated and took two themselves to regain the advantage by just a point with one end to go. A single steal for the Kinross squad decided the game 4-2. Elsewhere in the play-off for third, Team Seftor prevailed 5-0 over Team Sharp.
