TEAM RUTHERFORD SNATCH WIN AT ABERDEEN ASHAM U14 SLAM
Congratulations to Team Rutherford (Finlay Rutherford, Rory Stevenson, Finlay McGregor, Douglas Brown) who prevailed at the Asham Under 21 Slam at Curl Aberdeen. The Kinross outfit played some high-scoring games to walk out champions.
Going through Section B with two wins and one defeat, Team Rutherford faced Forfar YC, who completed Section A on the same record, in the HR semi-final. The sides were level on four points in an already high-scoring game after two ends. However, the Kinross outfit got a massive five points on the board in End 3 and Forfar YC could only respond with a single. In the other HR semi-final, unbeaten Team Dodds (Oliver Dodds, Murray Gibb, Erin Roche, Emma Gardiner) (Hamilton) faced Team Sharp (Jessica Sharp, Islay McKenzie, Callum Whyte, Natalie McGregor, Mitchell McGregor) (Perth), themselves on two wins and one defeat. The sides traded singles for the first three ends, meaning Team Dodds went into the final end a point up, but it was Team Sharp who had hammer. A deuce decided the game in the Perth side’s favour.
The final between Teams Rutherford and Sharp was a rematch of their Section B encounter earlier. On that occasion, Team Rutherford had recorded a comprehensive win and their Perth opponents were out for revenge. Indeed, Team Sharp were first on the board, stealing two in the opening end. However, Team Rutherford bounced back in style and answered with five points that gave them a handsome lead. The Kinross squad didn’t stop there though and stole another four points to make it 9-2 and put the game to bed without the final end completed.
Team Dodds prevailed 9-0 over Forfar YC in the play-off for third. Elsewhere, Asham Under 21 Slam overall leaders Team Seftor (Amy Seftor, Clare Cassells, Rachel Eadie, Isla Kay) (Edinburgh/Kinross) faced Curl Aberdeen 1 in the LR final. It was all square with the teams on two points each after two ends, but the home side outscored Team Seftor’s End 3 single with a deuce in End 4 to take the win.
