Vacancy: Chaplain
The Royal Caledonian Curling Club has, since its inception in 1838, had a Chaplain appointed from within the membership. This tradition has continued to the present day and we have been honoured to have been given twenty nine years’ service from Rev Bill Holland who will retire from this position at the next AGM in June 2015. The roll of our previous Chaplains is set out below:
| 1838-1840 | G Husband Baird | 1841-1863 | A L Simpson |
| 1863-1873 | Thomas Barclay | 1874-1897 | Cornelius Giffen |
| 1897-1913 | John Kerr | 1913-1920 | Menzies Fergusson |
| 1920-1939 | Gordon Mitchell | 1939-1946 | Mitchell Kerr |
| 1946-1951 | D S Rutherford | 1951-1956 | A Gemmell |
| 1956-1961 | John Good | 1961-1966 | Hugh Douglas |
| 1966-1973 | Robert Daly | 1973-1976 | David Keith |
| 1976-1981 | James Thomson | 1981-1986 | John Cameron |
Bill Holland describes the formal duties generally related to saying Grace at formal occasions. These included: the lunch before the AGM, incoming tour banquets, local province and national celebrations. He also chose to make contact with and got to know curlers by attending competitions from local to international, whenever they could be fitted around his work commitments.
There is no formal procedure in place that will guide us in finding a replacement chaplain, so we are now seeking a volunteer to come forward to be the eighteenth chaplain for the RCCC. Please contact David Henderson (President) or Bruce Crawford (Chief Executive) if you are interested in being next in line. We ask that you do so before 6 May 2015.
