Wins for Teams Carson and Kyle at Asham U17 Slam in Perth

Congratulations to Team Carson who took the High Road win and Team Kyle who came out top in the Low Road section at the Asham Under 17 Slam taking place at Dewars Centre, Perth on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th February.

Many thanks to Athlin Phillips for providing the report below.

The 16 competing teams were split into four sections and played a round robin format on the Saturday. There was a high standard of curling and some very close games. After the final session on Saturday evening, the teams for the semi-finals were decided. The High Road semi-finals would be played between Jackson (Stirling) and Jahn (Dumfries), as well as Carson (Dumfries) and Watson (Moray) respectively.

Jahn took a one in the first end and stole another in the second. However, Jackson took a four in the third end and were looking strong stealing one each in the fourth and fifth end. In the final end Jahn could only manage a two to finish, the final score line reading 6-2 to Jackson. In the other semi Carson was in control for the whole game and proved too strong for team Watson.

Team Carson (L-R: Charlie Gibb, Archie Hyslop, Logan Carson, Orrin Carson) are presented their trophy by RCCC president Susan Kesley.

The High Road final was between Team Carson (Dumfries) and Team Jackson (Stirling). Both teams looked fresh and were ready to play, but Team Carson were first to capitalise when a mistake from Team Jackson gained them a steal of two in the first end. Jackson could only manage a one in the second while Carson executed a take-out to secure two in the third end. Jackson and Carson exchanged single scores in the fourth and fifth end before in the sixth and final end Jackson ran out of stones and Team Carson won with a result of 5-2.

The Low Road semi-final fixtures were Grant (Greenacres) against Kyle (Dumfries), and Archibald (Dumfries) against Thomson (Perth). Both encounters were close with teams Kyle and Archibald winning their matches.

Team Archibald and Team Kyle went into the Low Road final where the first end was blanked followed by an exchange of twos in the second and third end. Team Kyle took a single in the fourth and subsequently stole two when Team Archibald’s shot caught on the shot stone in the fifth end. Team Kyle were in control for the last end stealing a score of 3 and becoming the winners of the Low Road final with a result of 8-2.

Well done to all teams taking part over the weekend.
