Weekend Preview 7-9 October
This weekend, the Scottish Senior Mixed Championship takes place down at the North West Castle Hotel in Stranraer, where 20 teams will compete in 4 sections for the first senior title of the 2011-2012 season. Teams must be made up of 2 males and 2 females over the age of 50 and the team must be played in alternate positions. 2010 Champion Archie Craig will be back to try and defend his title but will have his work cut out as several strong teams take to the ice. Following the round robin stages of the competition, the top qualifier in each section will progress to the High Road semi-final with the second ranked team progressing to the Low Road semi-finals. The first games get underway on Friday morning at 11.00am and the semi-finals and final of both the High Road and Low Road will take place on Sunday at 2.30pm and 5.30pm.
Elsewhere this weekend, Eve Muirhead and her team of Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton will be competing in the Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic in Calgary where they will be joined by 31 other teams in the triple knockout competition. Starting on Friday at 9.30am (4.30pm GMT), Eve and her team will take on Jill Thurston of Manitoba in their first game. Eight qualifiers will share the prize pot of $54,000 CDN, with the winner taking home $14,000. To keep track of the event, click here.
At the Credit-Suisse Women’s Masters in Basel, Switzerland, Jackie Lockhart and her team of Karen Kennedy, Kay Adams and Sarah Macintyre will be in action amongst some of the best teams in Europe. At The Green Hotel in Kinross this weekend the Kinross Junior Curling Classic will take place with 16 junior boys teams and eight junior girls teams. The junior boys will begin their competition on Friday afternoon at 3.30pm followed by the first girls session at 6.00pm. The final of both the girls and boys events will take place on Sunday at 4.45pm. All the information and results from the competition can be found on the official website, here
