Disability Try Curling Festivals

Scottish Curling are excited to be running two Disability Try Curling Festivals in March 2022.
“Try Curling” is the introductory curling programme that runs within ice rinks across Scotland. During the festivals we will be running specially adapted Try Curling sessions to allow people of all ability levels to experience curling. The event is open to people with all disabilities who are in secondary school or older.

What to expect from the sessions
Each session will be 60 minutes including around 45 minutes of “on-ice” time. On arrival at the venue, all participants will be registered and directed to the session meeting point. Scottish Curling qualified coaches will then deliver a fun and interactive Try Curling session.

What to wear
- Warm-up
- Moving around; getting comfortable and confident on the ice
- Introduction to curling delivery and opportunity to practice
- Introduction to sweeping and opportunity to practice
- Full length curling delivery; how far can you send the stone?
- Cool-down
Participants (and spectators) should wear warm clothing as the ice rink will be cold (hats, gloves, and scarves are recommended for those effected by the cold). Clothing should be loose fitting to allow for movement and participants should wear clean, flat, rubber soled shoes (trainers are ideal) to change into for going onto the ice. Those in wheelchairs will be assisted to clean their wheels before getting onto the ice.
All equipment will be supplied including brushes and sliders. Delivery sticks allow stones to be delivered from a standing position or wheelchair and will be available for those with mobility issues.
Event registration is available via the form at the bottom of this page.
All participants must be at least secondary school age. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, however the adult is not required to participate.
There will also be the opportunity to chat with curling club members and learn about other opportunities which are available to continue with curling.
Pre-registration is required to allow us to comply with COVID-19 guidance. Please complete the below form to register your interest. Spaces within sessions will be allocated to ensure all participants have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Please indicate which session you would prefer and we will confirm which session you have been allocated in due course.
