Performance Curling Update
Following the selection of teams to the Curling Performance Programme for the 2018-19 season, there have been further selection decisions made for our representative teams. Technical training for the performance athletes commenced at the start of July in the National Curling Academy, Stirling for the teams keen to be on form when they hit the ice as they begin their competition schedule in September with domestic and international competitions.
Curling World Cup – Scotland’s Teams announced
Scotland has been selected to send Men’s and Women’s teams to compete in the first season of the Curling World Cup. This is a brand new series of events, being introduced by the World Curling Federation, featuring eight Men’s, eight Women’s and eight Mixed Doubles teams representing their countries at each of three legs. The series will culminate with a Grand Final made up of the series winners and other elite teams.
The first leg of the Curling World Cup takes place in Suzhou, China from 12-16 September 2018. Scotland will be represented by teams skipped by Bruce Mouat (with Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan) and Eve Muirhead (with Jennifer Dodds, Vicki Adams, Lauren Gray and Vicky Wright). The teams have been selected by our Performance Director and coaches, fitting their attendance into an already crowded calendar of training and competitions. The teams that will represent Scotland in the second and third events will be announced in due course.

European Championships 2018
The European Curling Championships2018 will take place in Tallinn, Estonia from 16-24 November. This is the Estonian Curling Association’s second time hosting an international curling event, after hosting the World Junior Curling Championships in 2015. It is set to be a fantastic event in a beautiful city that is easy to get to for travelling Scottish support.
The teams to represent Scotland have been selected for this year. The selection process was approved by the board of directors, based on a proposal from the Performance Director, making it a “coaches pick”. The decision was taken to enable all performance teams to plan their season and attend events that will allow them to improve their world ranking at this early stage in the new Olympic cycle.
Scotland’s Men will be Team Mouat; Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan will be joined by a 5th player (to be confirmed). Further to winning the bronze medal at the 2018 World Men’s Curling Championship, Team Mouat is delighted to be putting their Scotland tops back on and are targeting a European medal in Tallin.
Scotland’s Women will be the defending European Champions, Team Muirhead; Eve Muirhead, Jennifer Dodds, Vicki Adams, Lauren Gray and Vicky Wright will be looking to add to their European medal haul. Eve, Vicki and Lauren are well accustomed to playing on the European stage and in their new line-up, they are joined by Jennifer and Vicky who represented Scotland at the 2018 World Women’s Curling Championship.
