Following hard on the heels of the very successful World Junior Curling Championships held at Dewars Centre Perth in March 2011, forty teams including twenty one from overseas, applied to take part in the Perth Masters 2012.

The organising committee have narrowed them down to 32 and believe they have assembled one of the most exciting fields ever to be seen in Scotland, combine this with an increased Prize Pot Totalling £17,000 a first prize of £6,000 and the weekend of 5th -8th January 2012 is shaping up to be a Curling Bonanza!!

For the first time in the history of the Masters a spot has been awarded to the winner of the Curl Atlantic Championship, an event taking place in New Brunswick in late September 2011. This event will consist of the best twelve men’s teams from the East Coast of Canada.

Another exciting addition to the Ramada Perth Masters 2012 is the use of time clocks to only count “thinking time”. The plan is to use this approach for the Knockout Stages only.

The clock goes off when the players throws the stone. The reason is that time clocks, a innovation created to speed up the game, would normally stop as soon as the stone stopped. However, if a team was losing, they would throw more draw shots which take time. The team that is winning throws more hits and thus ends up with more time if needed. So to even out this discrepancy the WCT introduced this to their events in recent years.
