DODDS/MOUAT CLINCH 2023 SCOTTISH MIXED DOUBLES TITLE
Congratulations to Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat who reclaimed the national Mixed Doubles title. The Edinburgh duo beat Sophie Jackson and Duncan McFadzean 6-4 in the final to become the 2023 champions at Dewars Centre, Perth. A strong first half gave Dodds/Mouat a firm hold of proceedings and earned the former world champions their second Scottish MDs title together.

Testament to the strong field that took to the ice in Perth, neither Dodds/Mouat nor Jackson/McFadzean made their way to the final with a clean record. With both duos competing in Section B, they met in the round robin stage with Jackson/McFadzean coming out the better of the encounter on 7-5. This would be the only defeat for Dodds/Mouat while Jackson/McFadzean too completed the section games on four in one, the single loss coming to Beth Farmer and Euan Kyle.
On to the quarter-finals where Jackson/McFadzean edged a tight 9-8 win over reigning champion Bobby Lammie and new MDs partner Hailey Duff. Dodds/Mouat meanwhile took the upper hand over Sophie Sinclair and Ross Whyte with three in End 4 and stole singles in the last three ends to bag a 7-3 win. Elsewhere, Gina Aitken and Grant Hardie saw off Farmer/Kyle 11-7 while Amy MacDonald and Blair Haswell narrowly got the better of Kirstin Bousie and Craig Waddell 5-4.
Both semi-finals were fairly straight forward affairs. Jackson/MacFadzean gained the upper hand over MacDonald/Haswell with a four in End 4 and confidently brought a 9-3 result over the line. In the other fixture, it was all square between Dodds/Mouat and Aitken/Hardie at the break, but the Edinburgh duo opened the second half with a four that tipped the game in their favour and earned them a 9-3 win.

Jackson/McFadzean opened the scoring in the final with a single, a feat instantly copied by Dodds/Mouat. Successive steals of two and one then swung the scoreline towards the capital outfit who led 4-1 at the break. Again, Jackson/McFadzean were first on the board with a single at the restart. This time, a trade of deuces followed that kept the gap at two-points for Dodds/Mouat with one end to go. The former world champions stayed well collected and arithmetically eliminated their opponents to clinch the title.
