TEAM STRAWHORN ARE THE SCOTTISH MIXED CHAMPIONS 2023

Congratulations to Team Strawhorn (Jack Strawhorn, Robyn Mitchell, Kaleb Johnston, Amy Mitchell) who secured the 2023 Scottish Mixed title and will represent Scotland at the next world mixed championship. The Dumfries outfit beat title defenders Team Bryce (Cameron Bryce, Robyn Munro, Scott Hyslop, Laura Watt) (Border) by a single point in the final.

Curiously, the event started off the way it would end with Team Strawhorn and Team Bryce facing each other in the opening fixture. The only difference was the result with the Border side coming out on top with a 7-2 victory. They went on to also win their second game 10-2, this time against Team Mitchell (Ewan Mitchell, Layla Al-Saffar, Bruce Kiellor, Nicola Joiner) (Forfar), and led the table after Day 1. Team Strawhorn were in hot pursuit on a one in one record, having triumphed 8-4 in their match versus Team Mitchell.

Day 2 started with Team Strawhorn doubling up as they bagged their second win over Team Mitchell on 6-2. However, Team Bryce once more got the better of the Dumfries outfit in the midday session. This time the encounter started off tighter than it did in their previous one, but Team Bryce ran away with it in the late stages for an 8-2 victory. As the table standings were confirmed with one game to spare, Team Mitchell and Team Bryce opted to forfeit the final fixture.

Nothing could separate the sides after three ends in the final, sitting on two-all, but Team Strawhorn scored one to just take the lead at the break. Team Bryce instantly equalised at the restart though and swiftly took the advantage themselves with a single steal. Another single for Team Strawhorn went on the board and it was all square again with one end to go. Team Bryce were coming down with hammer, but it were Team Strawhorn who stole one and snatched the trophy.
