Vicky Drummond & Euan Kyle crowned Ambassador Cruise Line Scottish Curling Mixed Doubles Champions!
Congratulations to Vicky Drummond and Euan Kyle on winning the Ambassador Cruise Line Scottish Curling Mixed Doubles Championship at Curl Aberdeen on Sunday 4 October.
Drummond and Kyle produced an outstanding unbeaten run throughout the championship. After coming through the Section B round-robin without dropping a game they finished top of the section to secure a direct place in the semi-finals.
There they faced Jennifer Dodds and Orrin Carson and continued their impressive form, cruising into the final with a comprehensive 11–3 victory.
Waiting for them in the final were defending champion Katie McMillan and her new partner Archie Hyslop. Having finished third in Section A McMillan and Hyslop had taken the longer route through the play-offs, defeating Lisa Davie and Mark Watt 9–7 in the quarter-finals.
Their semi-final brought a rematch with Section A winners Sophie Jackson and Duncan McFadzean who had beaten them 7–5 during the round-robin. This time with a place in the final at stake McMillan and Hyslop turned the tables, edging a closely fought contest 7–6.
In the final however Drummond and Kyle proved too strong. After taking three in the second end they seized control with steals of two in both the third and fourth ends before adding another single in the fifth. With the score at 8–1 McMillan and Hyslop conceded, confirming Drummond and Kyle as Scottish Mixed Doubles champions.
A fantastic unbeaten championship for Vicky Drummond and Euan Kyle. Congratulations to them both on a thoroughly deserved title.
Our thanks also go to title partner Ambassador Cruise Line for their valued support of the championship, to Curl Aberdeen for hosting the event, to Curling Stadium European for streaming the event, to the BBC for showing selected games on BBC iPayer and to everyone who helped make the competition possible
In particular a huge thank you to the many volunteers who gave their time throughout the championship including the umpires, time clock operators and all those working behind the scenes. Their contribution is invaluable in ensuring events like this can run successfully.
