Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund to provide final year of support to Asham U17 Slams

The Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund will continue its generous support of the Asham U17 Slam Series for the 2026–27 season, marking the final year of its dedicated support for the competition.

Scottish Curling is delighted to confirm that the Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund (WJJCF) will continue to support junior teams competing in the Asham U17 Slam Series throughout the 2026–27 season.

The support has provided valuable assistance to young curlers competing in the Slam series since the Fund first came on board in 2023, helping to make competitive opportunities more accessible to junior teams across Scotland.

Continuing Willie’s legacy

The Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund was established in 2023 in memory of Willie Jamieson, a highly respected Scottish curler and passionate supporter of junior curling.

Willie was recognised for his knowledge and love of the sport, as well as his enthusiasm for supporting young curlers and passing on his experience to the next generation. The Fund was established with the overarching aim of benefiting junior curling through financial support and coaching.

Its first major initiative with Scottish Curling saw the Fund commit £4,000 towards supporting junior teams competing in the Asham U17 Slam Series during the 2023–24 season. Eligible teams received an automatic £40 subsidy towards their entry fee for each Slam, removing the need for teams to apply individually for the support.

Following the success of that initial support, the Fund confirmed in June 2024 that it would continue supporting teams competing in the Asham U17 Slams.

The Fund’s support has subsequently continued to provide assistance every season to eligible junior teams competing across the Slam series.

For the 2026–27 season, the Scottish Curling Trust currently lists support of £55 per eligible team, per U17 Slam, funded through the Willie Jamieson Junior Curling Fund.

This season’s Asham U17 series will see junior teams compete at venues across Scotland, with events scheduled at Lanarkshire, Perth, Greenacres and Curl Forfar.

A final year of support

While the Fund’s support will continue throughout the 2026–27 season, this will be the final year of its dedicated financial support for the Asham U17 Slam Series.

Scottish Curling Major Events Manager Charlene Graham said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund for the support it has provided to the Asham U17 Slam Series over the past few seasons.

“The contribution from the Fund has made a real difference to junior teams, helping to reduce some of the costs associated with competing and providing more young curlers with the opportunity to experience regular, competitive curling.

“It feels particularly fitting that the Fund will be able to support the series for one final season as we continue to build opportunities for the next generation of Scottish curlers.

“On behalf of Scottish Curling, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved with the Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund for their generosity, commitment and support of junior curling. We are extremely grateful for everything they have contributed to the Asham U17 Slam Series.”

Scottish Curling would like to extend its sincere thanks to the Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund, its committee, Willie’s family and friends, and everyone who has contributed to the Fund.

Their support has helped young curlers access competitive opportunities, gain experience and continue developing within the sport, creating a lasting legacy.

As the 2026–27 Asham U17 Slam Series gets underway, Scottish Curling looks forward to celebrating one final season of this fantastic support, and are hugely grateful to the Willie Jamieson Junior Curlers Fund for the contribution it has made to junior curling in Scotland.

The Willie Jamieson Junior Curling Fund committee have decided that this will be the last season of operation of the Willie Jamieson Junior Curling Fund.

Much has been achieved in Willie’s name over the last 5 years and the committee feel this is an appropriate time to wind up the Fund.

No more requests for support will be considered from this point on and the remaining funds held will be used to support this seasons U17 slam series and the Junior Club Challenge at Dumfries.

Any residual monies (a very small sum) left, after these two events, will be passed to the SCT with a direction to further support junior curling.

The committee Charlie Jamieson, David Dobbins, John Brown, Ken Horton and David Ramsay (Kay Gibb rtd.) wish to put on record their thanks to everyone who has so generously supported the cause since its inception.
