TEAM GRANT ARE THE 2023-24 ASHAM U17 SLAM OVERALL CHAMPIONS
Many congratulations to Team Grant (Callum Grant, Ben Rankin, Gregor Troup, Fraser Rankin) (Greenacres) who clinched the Asham Under 17 Slam overall title for Season 2023-24. They won three out of the four slam legs.
An excellent start to the season at the opening Asham Under 17 Slam at Hamilton saw Team Grant reach the final where they bounced back from an early disadvantage versus Team Soutar (Callie Soutar, Eva Hare, Holly Clemie, Alison Hamilton) (Forfar) to clinch the Hamilton Trophy.
The Balljafray Trophy was up for grabs at the Asham Under 17 Slam at Greenacres and Team Grant prevailed on home ice. The decision came down to millimetres though: Team Grant were coming down with hammer, but Team Soutar played an excellent last end and a nerve-wrecking measure was required to decide the fixture. Eventually, a single point went Team Grant’s way and with that their second successive victory.
A third win followed at the third leg of the series in Forfar. However, home side Team Scanstone (Calum Skea, Donald Robertson, Jamie Jones, Ben Watson) did not make it easy for them and the final went all the way to an extra end where Team Grant used their hammer advantage to score one for the win.
It wasn’t to be for Team Grant at the final series stop at Perth. Despite a win in their opening fixture, two draws and a defeat followed which wasn’t enough to progress out of the section stage.
Team Soutar concluded the series as the highest ranked girls only team and indeed second overall. The Forfar side came runners-up at three of the four slam legs – namely Hamilton, Greenacres, and Perth – with a Low Road runner-up finish on home ice at Forfar to add.
The highest ranked mixed team were Team Brewster (Ethan Brewster, Luke Perras, Morag Skea, Amber Perras) (Curl Aberdeen) with a Low Road third place at Perth the highest finish of their slam season.
