TEAM MITCHELL AND TEAM STRAWHORN CLAIM ASHAM U21 SLAM 2022-23 OVERALL TITLES

Congratulations to Team Mitchell (Amy Mitchell, Robyn Mitchell, Hannah Farries, Kirsty Gallacher) (Greenacres) and Team Strawhorn (Jack Strawhorn, Hamish Gallacher, Rory MacNair, Kaleb Johnston) (Dumfries) who have clinched the Asham Under 21 Slam overall trophies for season 2022-23.

WOMEN’S COMPETITION

On the women’s side, the series swiftly developed into a showdown between Team Mitchell and Team Henderson (Fay Henderson, Robyn Munro, Holly Wilkie-Milne, Laura Watt) (Dumfries). Both sides stayed unbeaten throughout until they met in the final in the first leg at Greenacres. Team Henderson came away with the win in the crucial game and history repeated itself at the following competition in Edinburgh. Team Mitchell took the lead in the overall standings for the first time at the next stop in Perth. Capitalising on Team Henderson’s absence, they stayed undefeated throughout to clinch their first slam victory of the season. They repeated the feat at the final leg in Dumfries and thus crowned themselves overall champions.

MEN’S COMPETITION

Team Strawhorn dominated the series on the men’s side from the get-go. Starting with a perfect record of wins throughout, they clinched the opening slam of the season at Greenacres – and would keep going that way. The Dumfries side bagged the trophies at the two following legs in Edinburgh and Perth, once more without dropping a single game. While Team Strawhorn showed remarkable consistency at the top, their opponents struggled to put a run of results together across the individual slams. The gap in the standings thus kept growing and Team Strawhorn had already secured the overall title with a competition to spare. At the final stop in Dumfries, the side finally suffered defeats in the section games but still made the play-offs to eventually finish runners-up.
